    This is rubbish - The Californian was over 20 miles away at the time. Carpathia found two likely suspects at the scene of the crime when she arrived there - the Almerian and The Mount Temple. Rostron was very careful to say that Californian was nowhere to be seen until 8 a.m. The captain of the Almerian later said that his ship arrived at the Titanic ice field just after three a.m. and found the Mount Temple already there. Many people on board Mount Temple claim she was within visual range of Titanic as she sank - see Dr. Quitzrau's affidavit in the inquiry transcripts.

      The Californian was no more than 10 miles away, actually. I’ve never heard of the Almerian, but I know the Mount Temple was another one of the ships that tried to dash to Titanic’s rescue and was also the ship the Californian saw and decided to head for when she was first informed about the Titanic sinking by the SS Frankfurt which is why she didn’t reach the actual scene of the sinking until about 9:00 AM.

      @@DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY The Californian was over 20 miles away, in her log it showed where she stopped on the night of the 14th and then how far she travelled in the morning. If Californian was within 10 miles of the Titanic's position, Carpathia would have seen her at daybreak - it didn't. The Mount Temple dashed to Titanic's aid, but once she got near the ice, her captain refused to push through and switched off the ship's lights. When Mount Temple reached port, her officers jumped ship - they refused to serve with Captain Moore. The Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) report in 1992 concluded that Californian was 20 miles away and was not the ship seen from Titanic.

      @@tranceguide9752 The Californian was so only about 10 miles away. Many only believed she was over 20 miles away because of the location coordinates the Titanic had sent out when she sinking, but Bob Ballard had proved that those coordinates were to the wrong location and that the Titanic really was no more than 10 miles away from the Californian when he discovered the Titanic’s wreck on September 1, 1985. Also, people from the Titanic said they were actually able to see the Californian from where they were considering 10 miles wasn’t too far for them to see her from and some of her lifeboats even tried to row toward the Californian in attempt to get her attention, but unfortunately, she started moving toward the SS Mount Temple before they could get close enough.

    Wonderful job on the RMS Aquitania another historian did a series on the ship as well but I thought might have had a few details wrong. They were saying that the Aquitania was powered by three engine rooms, turbine for two propellers and two propellers ran off one Triple Expansion engine just like Titanic's .I also ask if the Forth stack was a dummy or was in use. They returned my questions by saying thank you for watching our program .

    So much wrong info here. The Californian was 20 miles away. Being "shutdown" doesn't mean what you think it does. The boilers are kept running for auxillary systems. Just the main propulsion is shut down. They could have easily stoked the boilers and got running within 30 minutes. Given the ice, I'd estimate it would have taken 1.5 hours to get to the Titanic. 2 hours total. The CQD (SOS was sent at 1215, received 1220. So let's say the Californian starts moving at 1230, they would have arrived to see the Titanic sink into the water and start rescuing those in the water. Theres a good chance they could have saved hundreds, maybe even thousands of people. It also would have given Carpathia a better opportunity to see where to go and update positions.

      The Californian was actually only about 10 miles away and it actually did only take about 30 minutes for her to start moving again after finally picking up the message about the Titanic sinking. I’m sure it probably would’ve taken that long for the Californian to reach the Titanic’s location too. It took her about 4 hours to reach the location after being informed about it too late, but that was only because for the first 2 to 3 hours, she went wrong way.

    It’s a shame Francesco Schettino didn’t learn much about the Titanic sinking before becoming a captain. That disaster teaches so much that all captains should know. Titanic Captain Edward John Smith did make some pretty big mistakes that led to the Titanic sinking, but he didn’t just jump into a lifeboat and choose to ignore everyone still on board the ship like Francesco Schettino did. He worked very hard to help as many people as he could safely evacuate the sinking ship and safely lower them in their lifeboats so they could wait for help to arrive and went down with the ship once he felt he had done all he could do. Carpathia Captain Arthur Henry Rostron knew that just because he wasn’t on the Titanic didn’t mean all of those endangered people on board that sinking ship weren’t his responsibility. He quickly sprang into action upon being awakened and informed about the Titanic sinking by his radio operator who came bursting into his cabin unannounced without knocking and worked extremely hard to make the Carpathia go faster than she was built to go to reach the Titanic as quickly as possible in order to save as many people as possible from that terrible disaster. All of that is really the opposite of Costa Concordia Captain Francesco Schettino who ridiculously thought that if he just left the ship, those still on board would no longer be his responsibility.

    What 'A Night to Remember' taught me. The Californian were ignorant and just stood there. What actual research taught me. The Californian weren't sure what they were actually witnessing due to the conditions on the night, weren't licenced to travel in ice fields, they did actually try to communicate with the morse lamp, didn't want to risk their own ship to go and investigate and had already sent out ice warnings to all nearby ships and as such wouldn't have expected a ship to go headlong into an icefield. You also have to consider that the ship was at a dead stop for the night and they can't just switch on their engine and go steaming away to the rescue. It takes a while just to produce enough heat from the coal boilers to produce enough steam to get going. A ship that is already producing steam and travelling would actually get there sooner. YES they should have woken the wireless operator, but popular media would have you believe they were the a crew of useless cowards. It is an unfair and ridiculous position in my opinion.

    • @DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY
      @DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY 13 днів тому

      Well, the Californian’s engines and boilers weren’t entirely shut down while she was stopped for the night and it actually only took about a half hour for her to start moving again after she was informed about the Titanic sinking when the wireless operator was finally awakened and asked to check on the messages so they could investigate further. It took her about four hours to reach the scene of the Titanic sinking after she finally started moving again, but that was only because for the first 2 to 3 hours, she ended up going the wrong in the wrong direction since at first her crew decided to try heading for the ship they saw in the distance during that time which was actually the SS Mount Temple.

    "Could She Have Saved the Titanic's Victims?" Yes she was much closer than those 19mi claimed by Cpt Lord. Robert Ballard has determined she was only 10 mi away (at the most). I know, she was surrounded by ice but so was the Carpathia when she made it to the scene and nothing happened to her thanks to a vastly increased number of lookouts. Also it wouldn't have taken long for her to start her engines again it's not like the whole ship was frozen solid because of the ice around her. How did the crew keep warm? Like Rostron Cpt Lord should've changed things around on his ship to accommodate survivors

    • @DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY
      @DANIELLE_BREANNA_LACY 13 днів тому

      Yeah, it actually only took about a half hour for the Californian to start moving again after she picked up the message about Titanic sinking and I have all confidence that she could’ve safely navigated those iceberg fields if she just acted as careful as the Carpathia did. It took her about 4 hours to reach the scene of the Titanic sinking after she started moving again, but that was mainly because for the first 2 to 3 hours, she ended up going the wrong way. Also, yes, Captain Lord definitely could’ve made a plan to hold the Titanic’s survivors on board the Californian much like how Captain Rostron very efficiently did in spite of the Carpathia not being built to accommodate the number of people who were on the Titanic and even though the Californian probably wouldn’t have been able to transport them all away, she could’ve at least held them on board until the other ships that came dashing to the Titanic’s rescue arrived.
